Rep. Cleaver Announces Christina Mahoney as Chief of Staff
(Kansas City, MO)– Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) named Christina Mahoney as his Chief of Staff, following the departure of Jennifer Taft. Christina brings sixteen years of congressional experience to the role, including fifteen years with Congressman Cleaver's office.
"It brings me tremendous pride and joy to announce that Christina Mahoney, who has dedicated the last fifteen years of her life to serving the people of Missouri's Fifth Congressional District, will take on the position of Chief of Staff in my congressional office," said Congressman Cleaver. "Her commitment to public service and the people of Missouri, along with her extensive experience on Capitol Hill and expertise in legislative procedure, will be a considerable benefit to the Fifth District."
Most recently, Christina served as Cleaver's Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director, advising the congressman on foreign policy for his position on the Helsinki Commission, the House Homeland Security Committee, as well as his position as the Co-Chair of the Congressional Serbian Caucus. Ms. Mahoney also has expertise in agriculture, trade, energy, and transportation and infrastructure issues, and is currently a National Endowment for Democracy Penn Kemble Fellow. She has also completed foreign policy and cybersecurity fellowships with the Woodrow Wilson Center and the Atlantic Council and is a board member of the Women's Congressional Golf Association. Ms. Mahoney began her career on Capitol Hill in the office of Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL). She earned her bachelor's degree in political science with a concentration in environmental studies from Grinnell College.
Emanuel Cleaver, II is the U.S. Representative for Missouri's Fifth Congressional District, which includes Kansas City, Independence, Lee's Summit, Raytown, Grandview, Sugar Creek, Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, North Kansas City, Gladstone, Claycomo, and all of Ray, Lafayette, and Saline Counties. He is a member of the exclusive House Financial Services Committee; Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance; member of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress; member of the Committee on Homeland Security; and a Senior Whip of the Democratic Caucus.
