Rep. Cleaver Announces Nearly $40 Million from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Awarded to Kansas City for Bridge Repairs and Replacement
(Kansas City, MO) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded $39,934,854 from the Biden-Harris Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to Kansas City to improve bridge infrastructure across the metro area. The federal funding will enable the repair and replacement of nine aged and deteriorating bridges within Kansas City, enhancing traffic safety, alleviating congestion, and creating good-paying jobs throughout the region.
“The Biden-Harris Administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has led to historic investment in the heartland and continues to build a brighter future for communities throughout the Kansas City,” said Congressman Cleaver. “Not only will this $40 million investment increase traffic safety and alleviate congestion for Missouri drivers, but it will drive further economic development and create more good-paying jobs for workers in the region. While I may have been the only Representative from Missouri to support the law that made this funding possible, I hope we can all celebrate the benefits it continues to bring to Missouri families.”
Earlier this year, Congressman Cleaver called on the Department of Transportation to select the City of Kansas City’s grant application for federal investment. Kansas City intends to utilize the grant funding to repair and replace nine bridges across the city that represent historic connections between neighborhoods, families, and communities. The bridges are heavily used by Missouri drivers and light and heavy freight, carrying nearly 53,000 vehicles per day and connecting community members to critical jobs, goods, recreation, and services. All nine bridges selected for repair are currently load-restricted and/or rated as “poor” or deteriorating.
The sites subject to repair include:
- 112th Street over Fishing River
- Pleasant Valley Road over Big Shoal Creek
- 12th Street over Big Blue River
- Belleview Avenue over Brush Creek
- Roanoke Parkway over Brush Creek
- Benton Boulevard over Brush Creek
- Elmwood Avenue over Brush Creek
- Gregory Boulevard over Big Blue River
- Hillcrest Road over Small Creek
