I will vote "No" on TrumpCare
I will vote “No” on TrumpCare – H.R. 1628, the American Health Care Act of 2017.
There is just too much for the American public to lose. Americans will suffer with less health care coverage, fewer protections and higher costs.
TrumpCare will take health care away from 24 million Americans by the year 2026 and over 69,000 Missourians will lose coverage. It cuts $1 trillion from Medicare and Medicaid combined, and takes 3 years off of the life of the Medicare Trust Fund to pay for tax cuts to high earners, insurance companies, and insurance executives. TrumpCare also fails to protect the 129 million Americans with pre-existing conditions. TrumpCare is particularly detrimental to rural Americans and rural hospitals. Rural areas have 6.6% higher premiums than the national average because insurance pools tend to be smaller - raising costs.
It’s not hard to see that even my Republican colleagues are struggling with this bill. That’s because voters are making their voices heard. In my office, I have received nearly 400 calls asking me to vote “No” on TrumpCare and 27 calls from my constituents asking for a “Yes” vote.
Let’s call TrumpCare what it really is, a giant tax break for the wealthiest citizens. This is not acceptable to the American people nor is it acceptable to me.
