Press Release

(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday, the entire Missouri congressional delegation, including United States Representatives Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-05), Sam Graves (R-06), Wm. Lacy Clay (D-01), Ann Wagner (R-02), Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-03), Vicky Hartzler (R-04), Billy Long (R-07), and Jason Smith (R-08), and United States Senators Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Josh Hawley (R-MO), sent a letter urging the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to release disaster relief funding to help Missouri communities rebuild houses, businesses, and other public infrastructure damaged by recent weather events.

Funding for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) was included in the disaster aid bill, which was signed into law in June 2019.

“As you are aware, Missouri has been devastated by historic flooding along the Missouri and Mississippi River systems. Our constituents now face the difficult task of rebuilding their homes, farms, schools, and businesses,” the delegation wrote. “We ask that HUD coordinate with FEMA to ensure that CDBG – DR funding be quickly and accurately disbursed to communities in need. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.”

“It’s imperative that HUD release and dispense this disaster relief funding immediately so that Missouri communities across the state can continue to repair and restore following this year’s destructive floods,” said Congressman Cleaver. “I’m happy to stand with the rest of the Missouri delegation to ensure the state gets the funding that is desperately needed.”

You can find the official letter attached.
