Congressman Emanuel Cleaver

Representing the 5th District of MISSOURI

Congressman Cleaver Releases Statement on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Report

Mar 25, 2019
Press Release

(Washington, D.C. ) – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II released the following statement regarding the recent release of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

“Now that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report has been submitted, I would like to personally thank Mr. Mueller – and his team - for their unwavering commitment and service to completing this nearly two-year investigation. During the course of the investigation, his integrity was questioned, his reputation was shamefully smeared, and he and his team were falsely accused of conspiracy. Despite it all, Mr. Mueller displayed impeccable character while conducting an unbiased probe. He and his team should be commended for their hard work.

Special Counsel Mueller’s team handed down 34 individual public indictments and 3 company indictments, rendered seven guilty pleas and obtained one conviction. The Special Counsel determined that there were two main Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election; disinformation campaigns on social media, and Russian government actors’ hacking the emails of members of the Clinton campaign and Democratic Party organizations. Now that it has concluded, it is imperative that the full report and findings be released to the public and the underlying evidence be made available to the relevant Congressional Committees.

The House overwhelming passed H. Con. Res. 24 by a vote of 420-0, to make the full report and its findings public. Congress must exercise its constitutional mandate as a co-equal branch of government to examine the full report – and underlying evidence gathered by the Department of Justice – so that;

1) the American people get answers,

2) Congress ensures that steps are taken to protect our election systems from future foreign interference, and

3) a final Congressional determination can be made regarding the report’s findings and recommendations.

The public is entitled to the Mueller Report, not the Attorney General’s summary of it. I will continue to push for its public release.”
