Rep. Cleaver Applauds $2.8 Million Grant to Kansas City Health Department to Enhance COVID-19 Vaccination Practices and Improve Health Literacy Among Underserved Communities
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) applauded the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for providing a $2.85 million grant to the Kansas City Health Department to identify and implement best practices for improving health literacy to enhance COVID-19 vaccination and other mitigation practices among underserved populations. The grant comes as part of HHS’s Advancing Health Literacy to Enhance Equitable Community Responses to COVID-19 initiative, which was funded by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act—a bill that Congressman Cleaver supported.
“Missouri continues to lag behind other States in terms of vaccination rates, and it is critical that we do more to educate the public about the importance and safety of the COVID-19 vaccines,” said Congressman Cleaver. “With this $2.8 million grant, we can ensure our trusted local health department has additional funding to get the message out to underserved communities that these vaccines are safe, effective, and our best way out of the pandemic. Funding for public health is always a good investment, and I will continue to push for additional federal dollars to help our communities defeat COVID once and for all.”
