The Light at the End of the Tunnel

February 19, 2016
Civility Message

Dear Friends,

I have just discovered some troubling news: the light at the end of the tunnel that has been shimmering for decades has been turned off due to congressional gridlock. When a tunnel is without its light, one cannot determine whether they are walking deeper into trouble, or to their escape. Now, I am sure many of you have never found yourselves trapped in a tunnel with no light; I most definitely have not. But I would imagine it is a place deprived of hope, understanding, and camaraderie, a place that is increasingly becoming familiar to many of us in Congress.

Congress is currently suffering from a prisoner’s dilemma; where some of us are only working for the interests of our own party, even though it would be in our best interests to work together. And what is our best interest, is our nation’s best interest.

I have long since abandoned the idea that one side of the political stratum can cure our nation’s ills. The best thing that can happen to reignite the light at the end of the tunnel is legislative collaboration and high level Esprit De Corps.
