Congressman Cleaver Announces Nearly $32 Million from Inflation Reduction Act Awarded to Missouri

November 14, 2024

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced that the Department of Transportation has awarded $31,933,577 in federal funding to Missouri to support the implementation and use of low carbon materials on federally-supported construction projects across the state. The federal investment was made possible by the Low Carbon Transportation Materials Discretionary Grant Program, which received $2 billion in funding from the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill Congressman Cleaver strongly supported.

“As we continue to modernize America’s critical infrastructure nationwide, it’s imperative that we do so with a focus on boosting sustainability, strengthening American manufacturing, and supporting good-paying jobs for American workers. Today’s latest investment from the Biden-Harris Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act checks all those boxes to the benefit of my constituents and communities across Missouri,” said Congressman Cleaver. “I’m proud to have helped make this funding possible, and I will continue pushing for innovative solutions that have the dual benefit of mitigating climate change while supporting Missouri labor.”

The Low Carbon Transportation Materials Discretionary Grant Program provides States, Tribes, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, and other agencies with reimbursement and incentive funding to purchase American-made low carbon construction materials and products, including asphalt, glass, steel, and concrete for use in transportation projects.

The Program aims to support continued growth in clean American manufacturing, boosting the competitiveness of clean U.S. industries and the creation of good manufacturing jobs while reducing pollution from the production of concrete, steel, and other bedrock materials of our economy. By catalyzing demand for clean construction materials, the Program complements the Biden-Harris Administration’s historic investments to support U.S. manufacturers that are cutting industrial emissions – the source of 30% of U.S. climate pollution.
