Congressman Cleaver Applauds Appointment of Ulysses “Deke” Clayborn to be HUD Region 7 Administrator
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) applauded President Biden's appointment of Ulysses "Deke" Clayborn to be the next Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Region 7 Administrator.
"Due to his lengthy track record demonstrating a passion for public service, expertise in development, and commitment to ensuring every Missourian has access to affordable housing, I was honored to nominate Deke for the esteemed and pivotal position of Regional Administrator," said Congressman Cleaver. "I commend President Biden for this excellent decision, and I look forward to working with Mr. Clayborn as we continue the difficult work of building back better from a global pandemic."
Mr. Clayborn was most recently the managing member of Clayborn & Associates, LLC, which specializes in real estate development. He has served as counsel on numerous development projects, most of which have been multi-layered, with the funding sources utilized to develop these projects including multifamily revenue bonds, low-income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, New Market Tax Credits, and HUD-insured financing.
Prior to establishing his own firm, Mr. Clayborn served as the General Counsel to the Missouri Housing Development Commission (MHDC), which finances the development of single and multifamily housing in Missouri. Previously, he has also worked for the Regional Counsel's Office at HUD. Mr. Clayborn received his bachelor's degree in political science from DePauw University, a juris doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and a master of laws in taxation from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Emanuel Cleaver, II is the U.S. Representative for Missouri's Fifth Congressional District, which includes Kansas City, Independence, Lee's Summit, Raytown, Grandview, Sugar Creek, Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, North Kansas City, Gladstone, Claycomo, and all of Ray, Lafayette, and Saline Counties.
