Congressman Cleaver Releases Statement on Former Director, James Comey’s Testimony

June 8, 2017

(Washington D.C.) – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II released the following statement regarding the testimony of former FBI Director, James Comey today before the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

"The fact that this is where we are in this country is already troubling. Like many others, I listened to James Comey testify in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee today. Mr. Comey said that some of his conversations with President Trump were "very concerning and very disturbing". It should be disturbing to all of us. I agree with Mr. Comey that justice should be blind. In seeking truth, loyalty should remain with the American people and not to a single leader of a nation.

There's still a shroud of secrecy and corruption stemming from the fact that the Russians interfered with our national election process and the Administration's reaction. Make no mistake about it; we will get to the bottom of this in Congress."

Emanuel Cleaver, II is the U.S. Representative for Missouri's Fifth Congressional District, which includes Kansas City, Independence, Lee's Summit, Raytown, Grandview, Sugar Creek, Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, North Kansas City, Gladstone, Claycomo, and all of Ray, Lafayette, and Saline Counties. He is a member of the exclusive House Financial Services Committee, the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, and also a Senior Whip of the Democratic Caucus.
