Congressman Cleaver Releases Statement on Shooting Incident During Congressional Baseball Practice
(Washington, D.C.) - Statement from Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II regarding this morning's shooting incident at the congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.
"No matter your political affiliation or viewpoint, violence is never the answer to our differences. My prayers are with the families of Congressman Steve Scalise, Rep. Roger William's aide, and our two brave Capitol police officers. I am grateful for the women and men of the Capitol police, the Alexandria police, and other law enforcement who protect us daily."
Congressman Cleaver was working this morning in Washington D.C. and is safe. All members and staff are being cautious of their surroundings this morning as security has been upgraded on Capitol Hill. All of the Congressman's offices will be open for regular business.
