Cleaver Commits to Fighting for Lower Costs, Upholding Civility, and Advancing Bipartisan Solutions for Missouri Families

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) was sworn into the 119th Congress to begin his eleventh term serving Americans in the Fifth Congressional District of Missouri. Cleaver was joined by his wife, Dianne Donaldson Cleaver, at the swearing-in ceremony earlier today.

“It remains the honor of my life to represent my fellow Missourians in the halls of Congress,” said Congressman Cleaver. “This sacred responsibility entrusted to me is something that I do not take lightly, and I am committed to using my position as a senior Democrat in the House of Representatives to advance bipartisan solutions that support hardworking families, lower housing costs, and ensure every Missourian has an opportunity to achieve the American dream.”

A former Mayor and City Councilman of Kansas City, Congressman Cleaver is now serving his eleventh term representing Missouri's Fifth Congressional District, the home district of President Harry Truman. During the 118th Congress, Cleaver was a member of the House Committee on Financial Services; Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance; member of Subcommittee on Capital Markets; and member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission. Previously, Cleaver has served as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus; Chair of the Congressional Civility Caucus; member of the House Committee on Homeland Security; and member of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress.

 

Emanuel Cleaver, II is the U.S. Representative for Missouri's Fifth Congressional District, which includes Kansas City, Independence, Lee's Summit, Raytown, Grandview, Sugar Creek, Greenwood, Blue Springs, North Kansas City, Gladstone, and Claycomo. He is a member of the exclusive House Financial Services Committee and Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance.
