Congressman Cleaver Welcomes President Biden to Kansas City

December 8, 2021

(Kansas City, MO) - U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) will join President Joe Biden on Air Force One as he travels to Kansas City this afternoon to discuss the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (H.R. 3684). The President will deliver remarks on how the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law delivers for Missourians by rebuilding roads and bridges, upgrading public transit, replacing water infrastructure, expanding access to broadband, and creating good-paying union jobs. Congressman Cleaver was the only Missouri House Member to vote in favor of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will provide approximately $9 billion to Missouri.

"I look forward to listening to the President's remarks on how this once-in-a-generation investment will rebuild Missouri's infrastructure and transportation systems," said Congressman Cleaver. "I believe Kansas City and the broader Midwest are the perfect venues to emphasize the benefits hardworking families are going to see from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It's the working class who will benefit from safer roads, cleaner drinking water, better broadband, and, of course, good paying-jobs—and that's why I was so proud to support the bill."

Missouri is set to receive approximately $9 billion to fix roads and bridges, remove lead pipes in schools and public buildings, expand broadband for rural and urban Missourians, begin the process of implementing a statewide network of electric vehicle charging stations, and more. Just last week, Congressman Cleaver announced Missouri will receive more than $147 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2022 to improve water infrastructure across the state. Missouri's Fifth Congressional District will also be eligible to compete for tens of millions of additional federal dollars through a wide variety of competitive grant programs.

The President will deliver his remarks at the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA), whose public transit system is expanding its electric bus fleet and has been fare-free since March 2020. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is set to help enable a transition toward sustainable public transit across the country.

Congressman Cleaver will return to Washington on Air Force One with the President following the visit.
