Congressman Cleaver’s Statement on America’s Worst Aviation Disaster in Over a Decade
(Kansas City, MO) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) released the following statement after America’s worst aviation disaster in over a decade.
“First and foremost, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victims of this horrific tragedy. During this extraordinarily painful moment, I pray that God brings peace and comfort to those who are grieving the loss of their loved ones.
“I also wish to extend my gratitude to the first responders and emergency personnel who immediately rushed to the scene in an attempt to save lives. As they transition to recovery efforts, the National Transportation Safety Board investigation will be critical in determining what caused this tragedy and how we can prevent one from ever occurring again.
“Lastly, I want to condemn the President’s politicization of America’s worst aviation disaster in more than a decade. In a moment where traumatized Americans are looking for leadership and unity, the President instead provided baseless speculation, racist lies, and political finger-pointing. It was a disservice to the American people and the individuals who tragically lost their lives last night, and I hope the President will apologize for such dangerous, divisive, and appalling rhetoric.”
