Congressman Cleaver’s Statement Supporting Confirmation of Marcia Fudge As HUD Secretary

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, United States Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO), Chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance, released the following statement supporting the confirmation of Marcia Fudge as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

"I've known Marcia Fudge for nearly two decades, and during that time she has demonstrated the qualities that are essential for an effective HUD Secretary. Her wisdom, experience, empathy, and understanding of the issues will bring a breath of fresh air to HUD, which is going to play a major role in the coming months and years as we respond to the coronavirus crisis.

"Homeownership is the primary avenue for working class families to build wealth and climb the economic ladder. We need a HUD Secretary who will focus on expanding our nation's affordable housing stock and strengthening housing programs so that every family has a fair opportunity to achieve the American Dream.

"As Chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance, I believe Marcia Fudge is that person.
