Rep. Cleaver Announces $225,000 in Grant Funding from NeighborWorks America to Develop Affordable Housing in Kansas City

Westside Housing Organization, Inc., Serving Rep. Cleaver’s Congressional District, Will Utilize the Federal Grant to Develop and Preserve Affordable Housing

(Kansas City, MO) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced $225,000 in federal grant funding will go to the Westside Housing Organization, Inc. in support of efforts to develop and preserve affordable housing, revitalize and sustain neighborhoods, and create good-paying jobs in Kansas City, Missouri.

"Since the beginning of my career, I have worked towards improving access to not only affordable housing, but the revitalization of vibrant communities in which neighbors contribute to each other's success. The programs of Westside Housing Organization have proven to be exemplary and are precisely the kind of work needed to rebuild underserved neighborhoods into thriving communities. I'm proud to have supported this federal funding, and I look forward to working with the Westside Housing Organization to expand access to affordable, sustainable housing throughout Kansas City," said Congressman Cleaver.

Westside Housing Organization, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit corporation that focuses on rebuilding and revitalizing communities in Kansas City with particular emphasis on robust sustainable neighborhoods.

The grant comes from the NeighborWorks America program, which was started by Congress in 1978 to help create communities of opportunity. There are currently 250 local and regional nonprofit partners in the NeighborWorks America organization. Initiatives include providing solutions to community development and affordable housing challenges through financial and grant support in addition to more technical assistance.

Emanuel Cleaver, II is the U.S. Representative for Missouri's Fifth Congressional District, which includes Kansas City, Independence, Lee's Summit, Raytown, Grandview, Sugar Creek, Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, North Kansas City, Gladstone, Claycomo, and all of Ray, Lafayette, and Saline Counties. He is a member of the exclusive House Financial Services Committee; Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance; member of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress; member of the Committee on Homeland Security; and a Senior Whip of the Democratic Caucus.
