Rep. Cleaver Announces $27.8 Million in Federal Transit Funding Headed to Kansas City Thanks to Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
Funding Comes as Part of $142 Million in Transit Funding Slated for Missouri in Fiscal Year 2023
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced that Kansas City will receive $27,810,226 in federal transit funding in Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) to expand access to public transportation, repair and replace buses and other transportation vehicles, support workforce development initiatives, and more. The federal funding comes as a portion of Missouri’s $142,692,830 in FY23 federal transit funding. The federal funding comes largely from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, otherwise known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congressman Cleaver was proud to support.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for hardworking Missourians, with another $142 million in transit funding heading back to the Show Me State, including nearly $28 million for Kansas City. Because of this funding, our communities have an opportunity to expand transportation options, improve public transit operations, strengthen workforce development initiatives, and continue our transition toward more sustainable transit,” said Congressman Cleaver. “Thanks to funding from President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we’re going to see more electric buses and less congestion on Kansas City streets—all while creating good-paying jobs for Missouri workers and increasing opportunities for families. As this funding makes its way to the City, I look forward to working with the Mayor, City Council, and KCATA on this once in a lifetime opportunity to modernize Kansas City’s transportation system in an efficient, sustainable way.”
In addition to the federal funding slated for Missouri and Kansas City, the Federal Transit Administration has made nearly $1.7 billion available in grant funding to support state and local efforts to modernize aging transit fleets with low- and no-emission buses, renovate and construct bus facilities, and support workforce development. Congressman Cleaver has been a tirelessadvocate for modernizing Kansas City’s bus fleet with new electric vehicles.
