Rep. Cleaver Announces $7.3 Million RAISE Grant for City of Independence
(Kansas City, MO) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced the Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the city of Independence, Missouri a $7,379,648 Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability & Equity (RAISE) Grant for local infrastructure improvements that will enhance pedestrian safety and ease traffic congestion in the Englewood Arts District. The federal funding, provided by the Cleaver-supported Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will help construct a roundabout at the intersection of Winner Road and Northern Boulevard as well as additional rehabilitation to Winner Road, including pedestrian safety and ADA upgrades.
“Once again, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that I proudly supported is paving the way for modernizing, innovating, and ensuring our public infrastructure meets the needs of our communities,” said Congressman Cleaver. “This investment not only bolsters necessary upgrades, but also underscores the critical role that these federal investments play in enhancing our community’s connectivity and resilience, not to mention economic development. I look forward to continuing to leverage funding opportunities created through legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act to create lasting benefits for constituents in Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District.”
“The City of Independence is honored to be a recipient and steward of this RAISE grant,” said Mayor Rory Rowland. “This investment in infrastructure is pivotal, ensuring we not only meet current needs, but lay a robust foundation for future growth. I look forward to witnessing the transformative impact of this grant as we work towards building a more connected, accessible community, and I thank Representative Cleaver for his work in Congress for making opportunities like this available.”
This federal investment is part of the Department of Transportation’s announcement of over $1.8 billion in awards from the RAISE discretionary grant program for 148 projects across the country. Today’s announcement brings the total Biden-Harris Administration RAISE grants to more than $7.2 billion for over 500 projects across the country, including several in Missouri’s Fifth Congressional District.
The RAISE program is one of several competitive grant programs providing funding to communities across the country under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. To date, nearly $8.6 billion in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding has been announced to Missouri for 460 infrastructure projects.
