November 12, 2021

According to New Report from the Joint Economic Committee, President Biden’s expanded Child Tax Credits are Generating Nearly $20 Billion in Local Economic Activity Nationwide Each Month

(Kansas City, MO) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced a new report from the Joint Economic Committee estimating that roughly 83,000 Child Tax Credit advance payments were sent to families in the Fifth Congressional District of Missouri in October. A total of $38.8 million in tax cuts were sent back to the bank accounts of hardworking families in the Fifth District thanks to the expanded Child Tax Credit passed into law through the Cleaver-supported American Rescue Plan in March.

"As we continue to gather data on the impact of the expanded Child Tax Credit, it's clear as day that this historic tax cut is having a monumentally positive impact on families in the Fifth Congressional District," said Congressman Cleaver. "Because of the American Rescue Plan's expansion of the Child Tax Credit, more families in my congressional district are able to afford essential items like groceries, clothes, gas, school supplies, and more. Not only does that help families stay afloat financially, but it stimulates local economies throughout Missouri, helping to create jobs and support small businesses. That's why I'm fighting to make this tax cut permanent through the Build Back Better Act, and I won't stop fighting until that happens."

Statewide, households in Missouri received approximately $296 million in Child Tax Credit payments in October, with the average payment per household being $449. The next round of Child Tax Credit payments is expected to start hitting bank accounts on Monday, November 15th.

Emanuel Cleaver, II is the U.S. Representative for Missouri's Fifth Congressional District, which includes Kansas City, Independence, Lee's Summit, Raytown, Grandview, Sugar Creek, Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Oak Grove, North Kansas City, Gladstone, Claycomo, and all of Ray, Lafayette, and Saline Counties. He is a member of the exclusive House Financial Services Committee; Chairman of the House Subcommittee on National Security, International Development, and Monetary Policy; member of the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress; member of the Committee on Homeland Security; and a Senior Whip of the Democratic Caucus.
