Rep. Cleaver Announces Missouri Will Receive $14.6 Million for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure
Funding From the Cleaver-Supported Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Will Accelerate Transition to EVs and Sustainable Transportation
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced that Missouri will soon receive $14,647,722 to build out the state's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, which will create a convenient network of chargers across the state, make EVs more accessible and accelerate our transition to more sustainable transportation. The funding comes as the first installment of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's five-year investment to expand EV infrastructure in Missouri. The transformational infrastructure bill, which was supported by Cleaver and signed into law by President Biden last November, included historic funding to construct the first-ever national network of EV chargers as we seek to combat the threat of climate change, boost America's auto and manufacturing industries, and create good-paying, green jobs.
"Electric vehicles are the future of Missouri and our nation as a whole—and I'm proud to have played a role in delivering this critical funding, which is a major step toward our transition to a sustainable and clean energy economy," said Congressman Cleaver. "Not only do electric vehicles help to combat the worsening climate crisis and cut down on pollution in our communities, but they also save Americans money on gas, strengthen our manufacturing and auto industries, and provide good-paying, union jobs. As the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to deliver for the Show Me State, I look forward to working with state and local officials to maximize the benefits of these federal dollars."
The funding comes from the Biden Administration's National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program. Over the next 5 years, the NEVI Program will invest nearly $5 billion to help states implement a network of EV charging stations in urban, rural, and suburban communities across the nation. Additionally, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law included a separate competitive grant program to further increase EV charging access, particularly in rural and underserved communities, which will be announced later this year.
