Rep. Cleaver Endorses Humanitarian Pause as Israel Combats Hamas Terrorists

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) released the following statement, endorsing an immediate humanitarian pause as Israel continues to combat the terrorist organization Hamas following the worst terror attack in Israel’s history.

“Since Hamas’ attack last month, I have called on the Administration to use our diplomatic capabilities to de-escalate the conflict as soon as possible and to ensure humanitarian assistance can reach the innocent civilians in need. I know firsthand that the Biden Administration has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to stress the importance of restraint and strategic, long-term thinking as our ally responds to the worst terrorist attack in their nation’s history.

“Today, the Biden Administration joined other members of the G7 in calling for urgent action to save lives and provide humanitarian support for civilians in need, including food, water, medical care, shelter, and access for humanitarian workers. Additionally, the G7 countries also called for a humanitarian pause and corridors to facilitate urgently needed assistance—which I wholeheartedly support.”

“There is nothing I want more than an immediate cessation of hostilities to protect innocent Palestinian and Israeli citizens alike, and I support the Administration's ongoing diplomatic efforts to achieve that goal as we speak.”
