Rep. Cleaver More Than Doubles Help For Missouri Families to Afford Energy Costs This Winter
Additional Funding From the American Rescue Plan Will Help Lower Costs of Heating, Utilities, and Energy Repairs for Hardworking Families, Seniors
(Kansas City, MO)– Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) highlighted a new report from the White House outlining how he helped deliver more than double the annual investment to help Missouri families afford energy costs this winter. In total, Cleaver helped secure nearly $179 million for Missouri through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in the American Rescue Plan and annual appropriations. As Americans continue to face the impacts of a global pandemic and high energy costs, Missouri families and seniors will be able to use this funding to lower the costs of staying warm this winter, cover utilities, and pay for energy repairs.
"The American Rescue Plan continues to pay dividends for the people of the Fifth Congressional District of Missouri, as it will more than double our annual LIHEAP funding this year," said Congressman Cleaver. "As hardworking Missourians are still recovering from a global pandemic, the last thing they need to worry about is keeping the heat on during these winter months. This critical investment in our families and seniors will lower costs and ensure Missourians remain warm, safe, and healthy throughout the winter. I have long been a champion of the LIHEAP program, and I was proud to support and vote for this additional funding."
