Reps. Cleaver and Davids Announce Airports in Greater Kansas City Area to Receive More than $14 Million From Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2022
(Kansas City, MO)– Today, U.S. Representatives Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) and Sharice Davids (D-KS) announced that five airports across the Greater Kansas City Area will soon receive more than $14 million in formula funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for fiscal year 2022 thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, otherwise known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The funding comes as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's $25 billion investment in airport infrastructure over the next five years.
"I am thrilled to join Congresswoman Davids to announce that airports across the Greater Kansas City Area will soon begin to receive more than $14 million thanks to President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will not only help our local airports make much-needed improvements to safety and service, but also create good-paying jobs while doing so," said Congressman Cleaver. "This funding marks the first-year investment of a five-year plan to modernize airport infrastructure in Missouri, Kansas, and across the country. I was proud to join Senator Blunt as the only other member of Missouri's congressional delegation to support the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and I look forward to seeing more federal funding come home to the heartland in the coming months and years."
"The bipartisan infrastructure law is already delivering for the Kansas City region. This funding will modernize our airport infrastructure, including KCI and two airports in Johnson County, and create good-paying jobs to get it done," saidRepresentative Davids. "Safe and reliable airports bring more business here to the Kansas Third, through tourism, travel, and shipping industries. I'm proud to join Congressman Cleaver and Senator Blunt in voting to bring this needed investment to our area and get Kansas City moving."
According to the FAA, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will deliver:
- $12,802,542 to Kansas City International Airport;
- $763,000 to Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport;
- $295,000 to Lee's Summit Municipal Airport;
- $296,000 to New Century AirCenter
- $158,000 to Johnson County Executive Airport
Overall, Missouri will receive nearly $50 million and Kansas will receive more than $22 million in funding for airport infrastructure in fiscal year 2022. In addition to the $14 million in formula funding, airports in the Greater Kansas City Area will have the opportunity to compete for $5 billion in grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration Terminal Program, which was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and will provide grant funding for terminal development and other landside projects.
