Reps. Cleaver, Davids Collect Philly Cheesesteaks from White House Press Secretary Following Chiefs Super Bowl Victory

February 24, 2023

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representatives Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) and Sharice Davids (D-KS) traveled to the White House to collect their winnings following a successful Super Bowl wager with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Last week, Cleaver and Davids bet some Kansas City barbecue that the Chiefs would win Super Bowl LVII after Jean-Pierre claimed that the Eagles were destined to be champions. The White House Press Secretary held up her end of the bargain by providing the lawmakers Philly cheesesteaks following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory on Sunday.

“I’m grateful to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for being a good sport and providing this quintessential Philadelphia cuisine after the Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in four years,” said Congressman Cleaver. “While nothing tastes better than Kansas City barbecue or the sweet taste of victory, I have to admit that the cheesesteaks were delectable. I hope that the Press Secretary will learn from this experience and understand that you just don’t bet against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. If not, I look forward to seeing her at the same time and place next year!”

“I was always confident Kansas City was going to come out on top at this year’s Super Bowl, and it was great celebrating that win with a Philly cheesesteak from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre,” said Rep. Davids. “I appreciate her sportsmanship and the comradery our communities have built the past few weeks. Now, I’m curious what hometown food Rep. Cleaver and I will be eating next year when our team wins Super Bowl 58.”
