Today the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means held a hearing entitled "Improving Retirement Security For America's Workers" in an effort to find solutions to the pension crisis facing the Central States Pension Fund (CSPF).
(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II joined Democratic leaders from the House and Senate in sponsoring a new proposal to help pension retirees. The proposed legislation would ensure that retired workers keep the pensions they have earned. Specifically, the legislation would allow the Treasury Department to loan money through the sale of U.S. Treasury bonds to pension plans to ensure that retirees and their families are guaranteed their promised benefits.
WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II joined 40 other U.S. Representatives in a letter to House leaders regarding future pensions. The charge led by U.S. Reps. Marcy Kaptur, Rick Nolan and Cheri Bustos urged House Leadership to reject any proposal attacking the hard-earned pension benefits of retirees and workers added as a rider to any end-of-year legislation. Congressman Cleaver is pleased to announce that the effort was successful in keeping harmful provisions out of appropriationslegislation.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Treasury Department has announced its decision to deny the Central States Pension Plan application for benefit suspension. Special Master Ken Feinberg announced the decision today due to the application not meeting the requirements set forth by the Kline-Miller Multiemployer Pension Reform Act of 2014.
