(Washington, D.C.) – This week, United States Representatives Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) and Jim Banks (R-IN), along with U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), reintroduced the Student Loan Disclosure Modernization Act to ensure student borrowers have a clearer understanding of terms and conditions before signing a loan agreement. Specifically, the bipartisan legislation would modernize the Department of Education's Plain Language Disclosure Form to be simplified, consumer tested, and with greater emphasis on material terms of the loan.

The bill was co-sponsored by the broad bipartisan coalition of Reps. Rodney Davis (R-IL), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Steve Stivers (R-OH) Sharice Davids (D-KS), Richard Hudson (R-NC), and Colin Allred (D-TX).

(Washington, DC) – Today, United States Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) voted in favor of H.R. 1333, the NO BAN Act, and H.R. 1573, the Access to Counsel Act. Together, this landmark legislation would prevent future presidents from issuing travel bans that discriminate based on religion, such as the previous Administration's Muslim Ban, while protecting certain due process protections for individuals detained while attempting to lawfully enter the country at ports of entry.
