(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) today introduced H.R. 1953, the "Hello Girls" Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2019, a bipartisan bill that would honor over 220 American women who served as phone operators with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in France during World War I. As phone operators, these women played a pivotal role in connecting American and French forces on the front lines of battle, helping to translate and efficiently communicate strategy. H.R.

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II held his first hearing as Chair of the new U.S. House Financial Services' Subcommittee on National Security, International Development, and Monetary Policy (NSIDMP). (Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II sent a letter to Secretary Alexander Acosta of the United States Department of Labor (DOL) requesting the release of federal government contractor data regarding gender and racial demographics. Reports have revealed that several private government contractors have asserted that specific workforce demographic data qualifies as a trade secret and/or privileged commercial information under Exemption 4 of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), an assertion that Congressman Cleaver vehemently disagrees with.

The bipartisan legislation permanently reauthorizes the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), authorizes funding for federal land and water projects and protects vulnerable landscapes across the (western) United States.
