(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) voted in favor of H.R. 8404, the Respect for Marriage Act, to codify protections for marriage equality into federal law. The Respect for Marriage Act will repeal the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act, protect marriage equality for federal purposes, and provide additional protections at the state level for interracial and LGBTQ+ marriages.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) voted in favor of two resolutions that would avert a catastrophic rail shutdown and provide paid sick leave, a 24% pay raise, and other critical benefits to more than 100,000 freight railroad workers. The resolutions were passed by the House of Representatives with bipartisan support and will now go to the Senate to be taken up for a vote.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) reintroduced legislation that would crack down on predatory price gouging during times of national crisis. The Disaster and Emergency Pricing Abuse Prevention Act would prohibit unconscionable price increases on essential goods and services, including the sale of fuel, medication, and other items, during or in anticipation of a natural disaster, pandemic, or state of emergency.

(Kansas City, MO) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) announced that Missouri was awarded $97.8 million in funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The funding will go toward helping low-income individuals and families pay for home heating costs this winter, cover unpaid utility bills, and make cost-effective energy repairs to lower heating and cooling bills.
