(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) voted in favor of H.R. 8373, the Right to Contraception Act, to protect the fundamental right to contraception and enshrine this right in federal law. Specifically, the legislation would ensure that neither states nor a hostile Administration can limit Americans' access to contraceptives or the ability of health care providers to provide contraceptives and information related to them. The bipartisan bill, which would codify the protections afforded under the Supreme Court's Obergefell and Loving decisions, passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 267-157.
