After a personal call with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray, U.S. Congressman Emanuel Cleaver today announced that the CFPB will propose changes to existing mortgage rules to promote responsible lending by small creditors, especially in rural and underserved areas. If finalized, the proposal would increase the number of financial institutions able to offer certain kinds of mortgages in rural and underserved areas, and help small creditors adjust their business practices to comply with the new rules.
Our right to vote is precious. That right is at the very core of the foundation of our country. And the right to vote must be protected. Now perhaps, as vigorously as ever, as our access seems to be under attack in many ways and on many fronts.

Thursday, the Credit Cardholder’s Bill of Rights Act of 2009 (H.R. 627) which Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II, Chairman Barney Frank (D-NY), Subcommittee Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) and Sens. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Mark Udall (D-CO) are cosponsoring, passed the House of representatives by a vote of 357-70.
This comprehensive credit card reform legislation is aimed at leveling the playing field between credit card companies and consumers and abolishes industry abuses that are unfair, deceptive and anti-competitive.
