Independence Day

On this day, the 2nd of July, 1776 the Second Continental Congress voted to declare our independence from Great Britain.  All thirteen colonies assembled, cast one vote each, either for or against severing ties with the crown. The final vote was 12 colonies for independence, with only New York abstaining because it had not been authorized to vote for independence by its home legislature.

CUTS THAT HURT ALL OF US

On Tuesday, I joined with several local leaders, including Congressman William "Lacy" Clay and Senator Tom Harkin, and the national health care consumer organization, FamiliesUSA to talk about how Medicaid cuts would hurt our economy here in Missouri.

Kansas City, Mo.-- Congressman Emanuel Cleaver will join Families USA in highlighting how cuts to Medicaid would hurt not just low-income and middle-class families, children, seniors, and people with disabilities, but also the entire economy of Missouri.  The Medicaid cuts in the House Republican budget, if implemented today, would have a devastating impact on the struggling economy of Missouri. These cuts would put as many as 35,210 jobs and as much as $4.2 billion in state business activity at risk.
