Today, Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II wrote to President Obama to call for a joint task force between the Centers for Disease Control and the Department of Education, on the problem of increased suicides among black children. A recent study revealed the rate of suicide among black children has increased in the past few years.
This week, I received call after call on a certain bill coming before the House for a vote. Some callers asked me to vote for the bill. Some callers asked with me to vote against it. To those doctors, nurses, and senior citizens who took the time to call me and my staff, I appreciate hearing your thoughts, and I do value your messages. To the hospital officials and health center advisors who came in to meet with me, thank you for your time and your insights. At times like these, I know it is important to listen to all sides and sentiments on an issue before making a decision.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, II announced that today, one day after the fifth anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a new report from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) shows that hundreds of thousands of people in Missouri are benefiting from this landmark health care law.
What's at Stake
This week, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Affordable Care Act case of King v. Burwell. The case involves a challenge to providing premium tax credits to consumers who receive Affordable Care Act insurance coverage in states using Federally Facilitated Marketplaces.
An adverse ruling would strip millions of Americans of health coverage, throw insurance markets into turmoil, and have widespread ripple effects.

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II has called for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to provide assistance and information on the outbreak of the Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68). This virus, associated with extreme respiratory illness, has reportedly infected six hundred and twenty-eight people across the country.
Last week, I signed onto a very important piece of legislation. H.R. 2821, the American Jobs Act, introduced by my colleague, Rep. Frederica Wilson, would do so much to strengthen and grow our economy and put Americans back to work.
