THE FUTURE OF FARMS AND FOOD
Finally, a Farm Bill! This must continue to be a leading line in Missouri’s Fifth District, and in Washington, where I was honored to speak recently at the Missouri Farm Bureau’s Breakfast. Of course, the Farm Bill is really a Food Bill, because it is not only about farm programs, but also about feeding America.

CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER ANNOUNCES MAJOR SUCCESS IN SECURING CRITICAL FUNDS FOR KANSAS CITY


This week I was pleased to announce that our collaborative and hard-fought efforts here at home, and in Washington, have paid off. Kansas City got two big wins this week! One of them is a critical move forward in getting back on the list for funding to fight everything from terrorism to tornadoes.

Kansas City – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II, is announcing a major win for UMKC , the life and health sciences industry in Kansas City, and the entire metropolitan area.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded a $7 million grant to the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Nursing and Health Studies. This grant is the largest the school has ever received, and positions UMKC as a national resource center for the prevention of HIV.

Kansas City - Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II received a standing ovation from a crowd of more than 100 area residents, following his passionate speech pushing Missourians to support the expansion of Medicaid.

"This is not just a medical issue," said U.S. Representative Cleaver, "this is a moral issue. Fact-free debate and political partisanship have no place being injected into this issue, the hardworking people of Missouri's Fifth District deserve better. Much better."

While the political standoff continues in Washington, the number of residents in Missouri’s Fifth District, who have been cut off from their unemployment insurance continues to grow.

  • There are now 1.6 million Americans who have lost this critical lifeline to support their families.

  • These are Americans who are searching for work.

  • Another 72,000 people will lose unemployment insurance every week unless and until it is extended.
