Each Spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation in each congressional district. This year, students from the 5th Congressional District have submitted over 200 art entries in the competition entitled, "A Voyage of Artistic Discovery".

Retirees are facing extreme pension cuts, some up to 60 percent, from the Central States Pension Fund plan. A town hall meeting of nearly 1,000 retirees was held in Kansas City, February 16, 2016. They told their life stories and hoped for a change.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the White House sent President Obama's Fiscal Year 2017 budget request to Congress. Congressman Cleaver applauded the President for putting forward a budget that builds the foundation for a strong American future – investing in innovation for the 21st century, advancing a world-class education system, and empowering hard-working families.
Through some small miracle of air travel, I was able to make it up to DC this week for an announcement that no amount of snow was able to keep me away from. On Tuesday, the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission made and presented its selection for a second national WWI memorial to be constructed at Pershing Park in Washington, D.C. at the National Press Club.
