(Kansas City, MO) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) applauded the United States Department of Transportation's (USDOT) allocation of $3.3 million to the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) to purchase electric buses. This investment will aid in the KCATA's effort to shift towards a cleaner, more energy efficient transit system. In April, Congressman Cleaver submitted a funding request for $6 million to aid in the acquisition of up to seven additional electric buses on top of the two KCATA currently operates.

(Kansas City, MO) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) is highlighting that advance monthly payments of the Child Tax Credit of up to $300 per month per child will begin hitting the bank accounts of Missouri families on July 15th and continue through December of this year. The expanded Child Tax Credit with advance monthly payments was passed through the American Rescue Plan with the support of Congressman Cleaver.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) joined over 40 Democratic House lawmakers from States which have refused to expand Medicaid coverage to introduce the Cover Outstanding Vulnerable Expansion-Eligible Residents (COVER) Now Act. This landmark legislation would authorize the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to work directly with counties, cities, and other political subdivisions to expand Medicaid coverage.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, the House of Representatives passed S. 475, the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, to establish Juneteenth National Independence Day, June 19, as a legal public holiday. U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) was a cosponsor of similar legislation in the House of Representatives and voted to support the Senate-passed bill today. The bill will now go to the President's desk to be signed into law.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representatives Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO), Cori Bush (D-MO), and Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) sent a letter to House Ways and Means Chairman Richard E. Neal to express strong support for permanent unemployment reforms and to urge the Committee to consider these measures as negotiations continue around the American Jobs and Families Plans.

At midnight on Friday, June 12th, all federal pandemic assistance for unemployed workers in the Members' home states of Missouri and Mississippi was prematurely cut off.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) highlighted the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will continue to provide tax credits to help Missouri small businesses cover the costs of providing paid sick and family leave for workers through September 2021. In addition to using the leave to care for themselves and family members who are sick, workers can also use paid leave to get their COVID-19 vaccinations and recover from any temporary side effects from the shot.
