Kansas City – “My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to all of the families and friends of those shot and killed yesterday in the senseless, horrendous, and hate-filled targeting of children and seniors, simply because of their faith. The Kansas City Metropolitan area will stand united, and grow deeper in our strength and respect for one another, in the face of this apparent anti-Semitic attack. My hope is that all of those touched by this unspeakable tragedy, will feel the arms of our entire community -- reaching out and pulling them close.

I do not believe slashing Head Start and forcing parents to stay home from work is the right way to go.

I do not believe adding debt to college students while giving tax breaks to big oil companies is the right way to go.

The most explosive running back I have ever seen in person was Berniece Mundean, my high school team mate. Under different circumstances, I believe that Mundean would have been an outstanding college running back and would have certainly ended up in the National Football League. He was just that good. During practice, one warm fall evening in Wichita Falls, the team was going through our punt return coverage where the punt returners were at one end of the field while the punter and two line men were at the other end.

THE FUTURE OF FARMS AND FOOD
Finally, a Farm Bill! This must continue to be a leading line in Missouri’s Fifth District, and in Washington, where I was honored to speak recently at the Missouri Farm Bureau’s Breakfast. Of course, the Farm Bill is really a Food Bill, because it is not only about farm programs, but also about feeding America.

As a sophomore student at Texas A&M at Prairie View, I hung out mostly with guys from Dallas and Fort Worth. Perhaps it was because I lived in that area during the first seven years of my life, and most of the Cleaver Clan still lived there.
